Our Timeline

Echuca Fashion Centre’s history of trading in Echuca and supporting Local Clubs/schools and community groups dates back to its opening on 3/7/1939 (Over 75 years ago)

Opened originally as Echuca Bargain Centre (In premises previously occupied by Lappin & Blass in the building on the corner of Pakenham and Hare St now occupied by Just Jeans) By a Mr Davis who moved the store from Bondi Junction in Sydney where it had operated for 12 Years previously.

In 1951 the store moved to its current location @ 198 Hare St Echuca under the ownership of Terry McAree.

As of   10/ 12 / 1979 Max and Bev Lord purchased the Business and Moved with their young family to Echuca.

Over the next few years the Echuca Bargain Centre saw unprecedented Growth.

From Extending the length of the store to the full length from Hare St to Nish Street in 1987 and also opening another branch of the store at 166 Hare Street to house their Ladies fashion dept in Jan 1981.

After approx 2 Years ( 1983) the shop next door (168 Hare St – an Ex Fish and Chip Shop called  The Tarax Bar  ) became avail and as more room was required a few holes were knocked in the walls to make access to the second shop 166 -168 Hare St while still trading strongly at 198 Hare St.

After working in the store for several school holidays their son Craig started working full time in Nov 1983.

Another Major renovation happened in Nov 1998 when Echuca Bargain Centre purchased the building next door (200 Hare St which originally had been a Ladies Frock Shop (DeCampos) and then a Nursery, and at the time of purchase was Leons Giftware.)

Along this major reno across 198-200 Hare St, it also involved a total refit of the store and the BIGGEST change after nearly 60 years (59yrs 4mths) as Echuca Bargain Centre the name of the store was changed to the current trading name of Echuca Fashion Centre.

This major change also saw the Ladies dept move back from the 166-168 Hare St store into the main store and the Mens and Childrenswear moved to 166-168 Hare St.

An Embroidery machine was added to the business at 166-168 Hare St in Oct 1998.

In Feb 2006 Max and Bev retired and with the lease due on the Menswear store it was decided to reconsolidated the business and move it all back under the one roof at 198-200 Hare St where it still currently operates.

Over the many changes in the Businesses long trading history Echuca Fashion Centre has always traded on customer service with a wide range of Quality Branded products.
